Start with your carpet product
Keep the product name, care sheet and warranty with your home records. Use the manufacturer’s directions for that exact flooring.
- Blot a fresh liquid spill with a clean white absorbent cloth rather than rubbing it into the fibers.
- Use a spot treatment approved for the carpet’s fiber, backing and warranty. Test it in an inconspicuous area first.
- Follow the product directions for removing residue and drying without overwetting.
- For an unknown stain, persistent odor or damage, contact a qualified carpet cleaner. Do not mix cleaning chemicals or use a generic solvent recipe.
